Le Moyne Sponsors Three Events in the Syracuse International Film Festival

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College is proud to sponsor three special events in the Syracuse International Film Festival, which takes place Thursday – Sunday, Oct. 13 – 16:

On Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater (2384 James Street), there will be a premiere of Philip Rothman’s score for D.W. Griffith's iconic 1920 silent film "Way Down East."

Former Israel winner and nationally recognized composer Philip Rothman was nominated in 2010 for Outstanding Sound Design for his work on Tongue In Cheek Production of "Proof." More recently, his orchestrations can be heard in the motion picture “The Beaver,” in theaters right now, and also in the upcoming "Too Big to Fail," which airs on HBO.

Performers for the “Way Down East” score include Linda Greene, flute; John Friedrichs, clarinet/bass clarinet; Cristina Buciu, violin; Kit Dodd, viola; David LeDoux, cello; Julie Bridge, horn; and Sar Shalom Strong, piano.

Prior to that screening, on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Reilley Room (located in Reilly Hall), Philip Rothman will visit Le Moyne College to talk about the process of scoring the film.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, from noon to 7 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium, Le Moyne will host the Social Justice and Cinema Sidebar. The schedule for the sidebar:

Finally, on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. at Jazz Central, 441 East Washington Street, Le Moyne and the film festival will sponsor the first in a year-long series of film talks. Actor Jason Richter will talk about the trailer as short story in his lecture, “The Art of the Trailer.”
