Le Moyne College Announces New Summer Arts Institute

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and Department of Communication and Film Studies are thrilled to announce the new Le Moyne College Summer Arts Institute. This new conservatory program will expand Gifford Family Theatre’s successful Summer Youth Theatre to offer additional opportunities for youth to delve into the areas of film and music, all on Le Moyne’s beautiful campus.

“The Summer Arts Institute offers an exciting opportunity for young people in Central New York to explore more areas of the arts. In the rich educational tradition of Gifford Family Theatre and Le Moyne College, these expanded programs on our campus will help young artists to grow and flourish in theatre, film, and music,” says Karel Blakeley, chair of visual and performing arts.

The 2012 Institute kicks off with a two-week theatre intensive from July 9-20. Following this will be a new exploration of film, running one week, from July 23-July 27. The summer program will finish with an amazing opportunity for string players (violin, viola, cello and upright bass) to hone their skills from August 6-10. Youth may choose to attend one, two or all three of these exciting new camps. An optional extended day is available until 5:30 p.m. each day.

In this first year, the institute is pleased to be partnering with the strings program at H.W. Smith School, part of the Syracuse City School District, to offer scholarship opportunities for promising students from that school.

Information and application materials are available by calling (315) 445-4230 or visiting the Summer Arts Institute website.
