Le Moyne College to Host Regional Forum on Economic Development

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Central New York’s Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) will hold its next open session on Monday, Jan. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Campus Center at Le Moyne College. (Directions are available at www.lemoyne.edu/visit.)

The meeting agenda includes an update to the most recent Regional Council awards and Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Path Through History initiative. Unveiled in March 2012, the Path Through History will partner with the REDC’s to use New York’s rich history to encourage tourism, local economic development and serve as an educational tool for all New Yorkers. All members of the public including individuals, businesses, organizations, labor and education representatives from Central New York are welcome to attend.

On-line pre-registration is requested; you can register at this link. In the case of inclement weather, a snow date of Thursday, Jan. 17, has been scheduled. On-line registrants will receive email notification, and a rescheduling notice will be posted on the CNYREDC website.

Established in 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo designated 10 REDCs across the state as part of what he terms a “new operating model for New York state government.” The goal of the program is to increase employment and business activity while improving the quality of life across the state. Each council will incorporate broad public participation in developing a five-year strategic plan for its respective region. Councils will apply for resources through the newly created NYS Consolidated Funding Application, and will develop performance metrics, identify obstacles to growth, and monitor progress.
