Resignation of Pope Benedict Brings Media Attention to Le Moyne
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … The news about the resignation of Pope Benedict later this month brought a flurry of media interest for the College. The most in-demand faculty member was George Coyne, S.J., the McDevitt Chair of Religious Philosophy at Le Moyne, who spent 40 years at the Vatican and knew Pope Benedict (who was then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) during his time in Rome.
In a six-hour span, he taped a segment at Channel 9 studios, spoke with a reporter for a story in the Syracuse Post-Standard, did an interview with YNN on campus, and also appeared live on both the NBC and CBS local evening newscasts. He was also interviewed by WBFO, Buffalo’s National Public Radio affiliate. In addition, Religious Studies Associate Professor Donald Maldari, S.J., taped an interview with a reporter with WRVO, and Matt Loveland, associate professor of sociology, was also quoted in the Post-Standard on the topic.
