SCSD Students Spend Spring Break Exploring Science, Math at Le Moyne
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Dozens of Syracuse city school district middle and high school students will be spending their spring break week participating in a Le Moyne/SU GEAR UP Enrichment Program.
SU GEAR UP students from all 5 city high schools and 13 middle schools will participate in a half day of math and a half day of science exploration during the week of February 16-20.
Students will explore grade specific earth science topics supplemented by hands-on activities/labs, watching IMAX films, listening to guest speakers and visiting the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST).
Middle school students will participate in Math Camp, exposing them to innovative teaching methods used to strengthen and enhance their math content knowledge. High school students will take a mathematics course designed to help them focus on the relationship of mathematics to classroom application and to ‘real life’ situations.
The Le Moyne Enrichment program is funded by the Federal SU GEAR UP program, a collaborative effort between Syracuse University and the Syracuse City School District, designed to increase the graduation rate and college attendance of students from eighteen schools in Syracuse. The SU GEAR UP program is one of SU School of Education’s Partnership Programs.
