Sanzone Center at Le Moyne Hosts Talk on Catholic Higher Education Mission and Challenges

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … The Sanzone Center at Le Moyne College will host a talk by the Rev. James Heft, S.M., on Monday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reilley Room, located in Reilly Hall. The title of his talk is “Catholic Higher Education: Mission and Challenges.”

Are Catholic colleges and universities at the turn of the 21st century in the same place as the major Protestant colleges and universities were a century ago – on the verge of secularizing themselves? To avoid that fate, Heft believes that the leaders of Catholic higher education need to understand the powerful cultural forces that shape the modern academy, draw deeply on distinctive Catholic intellectual habits and face squarely a number of major challenges.

The Rev. James Heft, S.M., is the Alton M. Brooks Professor of Religion and president of the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies at the University of Southern California and former provost and chancellor at the University of Dayton.

This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Sanzone Center for Catholic Studies and Theological Reflection and co-sponsored by the Office of the President. For more information, call (315) 445-4279.
