Le Moyne College Announces Speaker, Honorary Degree Recipients for 61st Commencement Ceremony on May 22

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will hold its 61st commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. on the Le Moyne campus. James J. Martin, S.J., associate editor of the national Catholic magazine America, will be the commencement speaker.
Jan Lambrecht, S.J., and Kathryn Howe Ruscitto ’76 will be awarded the honorary degree of doctor of humane letters at the ceremony.

Father Martin’s articles have been featured in the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, the Philadelphia Inquirer and other national and online publications. Besides his editorial, publishing and media work, Father Martin conducts seminars and retreats and assists on Sundays at the Church of St. Ignatius in New York City.

Father Martin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in finance. After working for six years in corporate finance with General Electric Company, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1988. In 1998, he received a master’s degree in divinity from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, followed by a master’s degree in theology in 1999. In addition, Father Martin spent time with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Nairobi.

Jan Lambrecht, S.J., is professor emeritus of New Testament at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, from which Belgian law required his retirement in 1990. He was an invited professor at the Biblical Institute in Rome from 1995-2000, served in the major seminary of Pretoria, South Africa, from 2001-03, and volunteered to teach at Loyola University in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Father Lambrecht is widely published in Dutch, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese. Author of numerous books, he has contributed significantly to the study of Saint Paul and the parables in the Synoptic Gospels.

Kathryn Howe Ruscitto, Le Moyne College class of 1976, is president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Ruscitto joined the hospital in 2001 as senior vice president of strategy, development and government affairs and, most recently, served as executive vice president.  She is a member of the Catholic Health Progress, Thursday Morning Roundtable and Syracuse 20/20. In 2007, Ruscitto was honored for her devotion to religion, distinction in career and dedication to community at the 25th annual Interfaith Leadership Award Dinner, hosted by Interfaith Works. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University.
