Le Moyne Professor Awarded Prestigious Fulbright Scholar Grant and Teaching Chair

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Douglas R. Egerton, professor of history at Le Moyne College, has been awarded the prestigious Mary Ball Washington Chair in American History by the U.S. State Department’s Fulbright Program.

As the Mary Ball Washington Chair in American History, Egerton will teach at University College Dublin for the 2011-12 academic year. The Mary Ball Washington Chair in American History was established as a full-time professorship in the School of History and Archives, University College Dublin in 1979. Since 1986, the chair has been filled by a U.S. academic under the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program. Over the years the post has been filled by eminent scholars of American history and foreign policy, including George McGovern and Stephen Ambrose.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program comprises approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing/research awards and are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Egerton holds a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a master’s degree and doctorate from Georgetown University.
