Le Moyne College Hosts Economic Forum to Discuss the Crisis in U.S. Public Debt

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will host an economics forum on “Crisis in U.S. Public Debt: Catastrophic Budget Failure” on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium.

Dr. Leonard E. Burman, a nationally recognized tax policy and public finance expert and the Moynihan Chair in Public Affairs at Maxwell School of Syracuse University, will discuss the crisis of U.S. public debt. In addition to a careful assessment of this crisis, Burman will offer short- and long-term strategies to address this catastrophic budget failure. To begin, he quotes Will Rogers who suggested that, “If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.”

Burman has testified before Congress twice in the last year. Formerly he was the director of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center in Washington, D.C., Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Analysis at the Department of the Treasury, and a senior analyst at the Congressional Budget Office.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Economics Club. For more information, call (315) 445-4465.
