Communication & Film Studies

Story-telling. It's the way the media works. It's what we teach.

Want to be a journalist or a filmmaker, a TV broadcaster or a designer of advertisements, a public relations professional or a radio host?  Learn how to tell a story.
Maybe that story is played on a movie screen or a laptop.
Maybe it's crafted out of sharp prose and captivating photos.
Maybe it's a press release or a dynamic ad on the page of a magazine.
Maybe it's you talking on the air.
Maybe the story has it all: written words, slide shows, video clips, audio, interactive maps ...

In the Department of Communication and Film Studies at Le Moyne College, we teach students to be media professionals who can create narratives that are artful, sophisticated, creative, elegant, even, sometimes, poetic, and always powerful.

And we teach them how to share those stories with the world. That means our students become experts at using state-of-the-art cameras in the studio and in the field, that they learn non-linear editing and software like InDesign, that they can put together newspapers and produce online ads.

Students in all of our concentrations -- filmmaking, journalism, advertising, public relations, radio/TV broadcasting, music industry, and media studies -- learn how to operate in a media world that is constantly changing and increasingly converging.

And because we are part of a Jesuit liberal arts college, our students gain a wide-ranging critical literacy and a deep social responsibility. After a vigorous and formative four years, communication and film studies graduates enter media professions or graduate school ready to contribute creatively, ethically and learnedly.

Stop by, send us an email, or call us.  We'll tell you our story.
