Each of the department’s five concentrations provides rigorous sociological training with emphasis on the skills needed to prepare for careers after graduation.

Human services concentration – work in direct-assistance organizations or for graduate study in applied sociology, clinical sociology or social work

Research and – an academic career such as teaching and doing research in sociology. Students with a concentration in research and theory also may go on to do graduate study in either Ph.D. or applied master’s programs in sociology or professional education in fields such as business, public health and urban planning.

Criminology and criminal justice – any area of the criminal justice system or for graduate work in law or criminology
