Sustainability

  • Professor Magdoleen Ierlan will be teaching a special topic course on Green Marketing in Fall 2011.
  • The AMA program has invigorated its curriculum with the sustainability theme.
  • Students in all sections of "Introductory to information Systems" are reading "The Necessary Revolution: Working Together to Create a Sustainable World" by Peter Senge.

 

Entrepreneurship

  • Professor Bernard Arogyaswamy had a successful course in Entrepreneurship in Spring 2011 and will continue to offer a 2-course series in Entrepreneurship in Fall 2011.
  • Congratulations to our students, Matt Werbeck and Dan Russell on the verge of launching their entrepreneurship venture.
  • Professor Ron Wright is leading a team on the Kaufmann grant to launch a social entrepreneurship venture.

 

Globalization

  • Professor Bernard Arogyaswamy and Dean Wally Elmer are leading the exchange program. University of Warsaw and Le Moyne College exchange business students, beginning in Fall 2011. Additional exchange programs in Italy, England, Barcelona and Beijing will be launched soon.

  • Le Moyne College and Syracuse University have developed a new partnership to offer students a unique Global Enterprise Technology (GET) Immersion Experience Internship Program.

 

Ongoing initiatives in the Division of Management:

  • LeMoyne Syracuse University 4+1 Fast Track Program in Information Management: The exciting program allows Le Moyne students with a major or dual major in information systems or computer science to complete a master’s degree program in information management at S.U. by taking graduate courses there during their senior year at Le Moyne, all at the tutition of Le Moyne.   • AACSB Reaccreditation: Fewer than 25% of business schools in the USA and fewer than 10% of business schools worldwide have met AACSB’s (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) rigorous standards, which are deemed as the “gold standard” in business school accreditation by Forbes magazine.  The School of Business at Le Moyne is accredited by AACSB International. Associate Dean George Kulick and Professor Greg Lepak are leading faculty to prepare for AACSB reaccreditation.
  • Accounting program upgrades: The Accounting program is in the process of reviewing and updating its 150-hour program, creating a new mentoring program, bringing back Becker CPA Review, coordinating job placement, establishing a learning community, and reinvigorating the Accounting Advisory Board.  For more information, please contact Professor Robert Kawa.
  • Jesuit Business Case Series: Professor Dan Orne and Dennis O'Conner are leading a team in creating Jesuit Business Case Series.
  • Signature Series: The Signature Series invites local business leaders and alumni to convene on our campus with our professors who are showcasing their key areas of interest. Fr. David McCallum led off this spring with a presentation on "Developing Our Leadership Agility," followed by  Dr. Jonathan Schonsheck’s "Fatal Fallacy: The Logical Flaws that are Killing Our Economy."   • Diversity and Inclusion Conference: The Division of Management hosted a conference on Diversity and Inclusion on May 25th, 2011 at Grewen Auditorium. For more information, please contact Professor Kerry Carney.
  • Graduate Health Care Leadership Certificate: Professor Renee Downey Hart is leading a team to work with St. Joe’s Hospital personnel to build course content for 5-course certificate. The launch target date is Spring 2012.
  • C2C Career Advantage: The "College to Career" program (C2C) is an exciting program that helps our students better prepare for their careers.  Students in the program will participate in valuable out-of-classroom activities that are class year appropriate and that are advantageous to their careers.  The participation of the program is mandatory, starting with the class of 2015.   • Government Systems Certificate: Partnered with Lockheed Martin, SRC, SRCTec, Sensis Corporation and Anaren Corporation, the Information Systems program creates the certificate to address the need to fill the government systems contracting pipeline with new talent.  The course schedule includes "Introduction to Government Systems" taught by Ron Ziomek, Director of Contracts at Lockheed Martin, and "Project Management" taught by Martha Grabowski in Fall 2011, "Introduction to Government Systems Accounting" taught by Professor Joan Myers in Spring 2012, and "Contracts Compliance" taught by Dave Sprague, Corporate Counsel at SRC.   • Human Resource Minor: The field of Human Resources (HR) has seen a renaissance in the past twenty years as old models of hiring, tracking and compensation have been replaced with foci on talent management, organizational learning, total rewards and ethics and sustainability.  The field is a broad one, and needs both qualitative and quantitative thinkers to maximize the performance and effectiveness of organizational players. The minor is available beginning Fall 2011, and requires Human Resources 301 and Management 301 as well as three electives.  For more information on the field, the career and the program, please contact Professor Renee Downey Hart
    Health Information Systems Certificate and Minor: The certificate and minor are to address the high demand in the job market for health information systems specialists due to the mandate of electronic health records and the retirement wave of baby boomers.  Professor Shinjeng Lin is conducting a listening tour with the local hospitals and facilities, including St. Joseph, Crouse, Upstate, Community General, Loretto, and Welch Allyn. He will teach the course, "Health Information Systems," in Fall 2011.
  • Social networking: The Division of Management has launched social networking sites on Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty and other program partners. For more information, please contact Professor Shinjeng Lin.

 

What is going on

  • Professor Kim's retirement: Professor Chongyoul Kim is retiring after Spring 2011 after all the wonderful years of teaching and services in the Division of Management. Send him a farewell and tell him how much you appreciate his service to the college.
  • The CJBE conference: The 14the Annual "Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education" (CJBE) conference will take place in Cincinnati, OH from 7th July, 2011 to 11th July, 2011. A large contingent from the Management Division will be attending. Dr. Dan Orne, Dr. Dennis O'Conner, Fr. David McCallum, Dr. Renee Downey Hart, will present the "The Jesuit Business Case Series" proposal. Dr. Ron Wright and Dr. Thaddeus Sim will present a paper titled "Operations Research and Jesuit Education: Reflections from the Applied Management Analysis Program at Le Moyne College."  Dr. Chris Zimmer will present a paper titled "St. Ignatius and the Blackberry: What can Jesuit Education Tell Us About Teaching Information Systems in a Connected World?" on behalf of several business faculty members.
  • Professor Havernak now a CPA: Congratulations to Professor Susan Havernak for receiving her New York State CPA license.  Send her congratulations!
  • Fr. McCallum conducts a workshop: Fr. David McCallum conducts a workshop, entitled, "Inquiry in Action for Leadership in Crisis: Exploring the connections between transformative learning and leadership" at the 9th Transformative Learning Conference in Athens, Greece, May 28th-29th, 2011.
  • Student winning the ACM scholarship: Congratulations to our student, Danielle Smarr, for receiving the $1,000 student scholarship from the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Syracuse Chapter.
