Jazzuits Present "Ladies of Big Band Era"

The Le Moyne College Jazzuits welcomes special guest Kim Nazarian (of the New York Voices) to celebrate music of the Big Band Era that was popularized by female jazz singers. This cabaret style concert will feature well-known songs as performed by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, and many more!

Kim Nazarian has previously worked with the Jazzuits as a clinician for their Vocal Jazz Festival, held every year. “Having Kim return to work with the Jazzuits in a performance venue will be very exciting,” says Jazzuits director Carol Jacobe. Several ladies from the ensemble will join Ms. Nazarian on tunes made popular by the Andrews Sisters and the Boswell Sisters.

Tickets for table seating is $15 for the general public, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students; general admission is $5 for adults and free for students. Reservations are recommended and refreshments will be served.

For more information and to purchase tickets call (315) 445-4200 or click here. The concert (the first of many Le Moyne student ensemble performances of the spring semester) will take place in Grewen Auditorium in Grewen Hall on campus.

In 2012 Ms. Nazarian was recognized as one of the top 50 most influential Armenian artists and inducted into her high school’s Hall of Fame. Along with the many recordings she has made with the NYV, she is proud to be one of the featured voices on Bobby McFerrin’s VOCAbuLarieS CD. Another recent professional highlight is Ms. Nazarian’s collaboration with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the Manchester Craftman’s Guild on a concert tour dedicated to the late, great Ella Fitzgerald.

Most notably, she wrote the title track to the accompanying CD of Bill Strickland’s best-selling book Making the Impossible Possible. You can find her song World of Possibilities on iTunes.

Ms. Nazarian specializes in teaching vocal technique and the art of ensemble singing. For the past three years she has represented the U.S. as a judge for the International A Cappella Competition in Graz, Austria. She will also be a guest teacher in Germany this summer, and continues her long‐standing position as an artist-in-residence at Bowling Green State University.
