The Jazzuits in the Marren with Special Guest Ronnie Leigh

On Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., legendary jazz singer Ronnie Leigh will join the Le Moyne College Jazzuits in the Marren Studio in the W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts to present a concert of Billy Joel’s biggest hits, as well as some unknown “gems.”

Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students and Le Moyne College faculty and staff. For tickets or more information, call 315-445-4200 or purchase them online here. Reservations are recommended.

The Jazzuits, Le Moyne College’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble, is under the direction of Carol Jacobe, adjunct instructor of vocal studies, at Le Moyne College. The ensemble, which includes 20 student vocalists and a complete rhythm section, will be performing hits such as “New York State of Mind,” “Vienna,” “Uptown Girl,” and “The Longest Time.” Ronnie will join the group on “Just the Way You Are,” “River of Dreams,” and “Everybody Has a Dream,” and will also be featured on “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.”

Ronnie Leigh, founder and artistic director of Jazz in the City, has been impressing audiences for years from Syracuse to Seattle, and from New York City to Istanbul, giving the bands he has performed with leadership and a distinctive flare. An Albany native and five-time Syracuse Area Music Award winner, Leigh has recorded with Cabo Frio on Zebra Records and MCA Records, and with Larry Arlotta on Spirit Jazz. Though primarily a jazz interpreter, he has a variety of musical interests and recently released a debut album on Eiffel Records with his own band, Prime Time Funk.

A frequent performer at resorts, jazz clubs, music festivals and concert halls throughout the U.S. and Canada, Leigh has shared the stage with The Drifters, Pat Metheny, The Yellowjackets, David Benoit, Special EFX, Spyro Gyra, David Sanborn, Tom Scott, Etta Jones and Jon Hendricks, as well as the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

Larry Hoyt of WAER Jazz 88 says, “Ronnie Leigh has a smooth, mellow and multifaceted voice. Whether singing with the Syracuse Symphony or scatting with a small combo, he’s a vocalist with plenty of presence.”
