Genocide in Rwanda, 1994: Personal, Policy and Leadership Lessons

Retired Ambassador Prudence Bushnell has served as U.S. Ambassador to both Kenya and Guatemala. As a senior official in the Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, Bushnell managed conflict resolution initiatives, including those aimed at bringing peace to Rwanda through the Arusha Peace Accords. Her efforts to secure more active attention within our government to the slaughter were recounted by Samantha Power in A Problem from Hell (2002) and were featured in the 2005 film, "Sometimes in April," in which she is portrayed by actress Debra Winger.

This event is part of the The Future of Being Human, an initiative of the McDevitt Core Professorship and McDevitt Center.

In light of ecological crisis, rapid technological change, and widespread social alienation, what is the future of being human? Join a multidisciplinary conversation about what it means to be human in the 21st century.
