The Rev. Kevin G. O'Connell, S.J. Distinguished Professorship in the Humanities, funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, was first awarded in 1996. This three year professorship is available to tenured faculty in the humanties disciplines (English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts). Past holders of the O'Connell professorship are: John W. Langdon (History), Frederick E. Glennon (Religious Studies), Elizabeth T. Hayes (English), and David T. Lloyd (English) The current O'Connell professor is Mary N. MacDonald (Religious Studies). Each O'Connell professor proposes a plan to enhance the humanities at Le Moyne. Mary MacDonald's plan, which is outlined below, focuses on "Humanities and the Environment."
