Meet Karel Blakely

Director of Theatre and Resident Scenic Designer

Prof. Blakely teaches courses in scene design, lighting design, and stagecraft. In addition to designing sets and lights for 50 plays at Le Moyne, he has also designed sets (and sometimes lights) for Simply New Theatre, Gifford Family Theatre, Cortland Repertory Theatre, Syracuse Stage, Syracuse University, Syracuse Shakespeare Festival, University of Maine, University of Hartford in Connecticut, Lake Erie College in Ohio, and at the University of Toronto in Canada (as a part of their medieval theatre festivals and cycle plays).  In 1991 he joined a delegation of theatre educators traveling to Czechoslovakia and Russia. He has delivered numerous design presentations to the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the United States Institute of Theatre Technology. Karel earned a BFA from Lake Erie College and an MFA in Design from Syracuse University.

Meet Harjit K. Arora

Professor of Economics

Economics Professor Harjit Arora has long had a passion for financial planning. Today she regularly appears on television and in print media to discuss world financial markets and their impact on individual investors. Her greatest joy, though, stems from sharing her knowledge with the students she teaches. Dr. Arora hopes that, during their time at Le Moyne, these young men and women will learn to spend less and save more, acquire the skills necessary to remain competitive in an increasingly global economy, and reach out to others. Dr. Arora’s philosophy of life is simple – work hard and remain optimistic. She earned a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, a master’s degree from the University of Delhi and a bachelor’s degree from Guru Nanak Dev University.

Meet Donald C. Maldari, S.J.

Professor of Theology

The greatest advice that Donald Maldari has ever received is this – love your students and convey enthusiasm. As an assistant professor of religious studies at Le Moyne, he strives to do just that. It is his hope that the students he teaches will become acquainted with the Catholic faith tradition and that of other faith traditions, study and critique them and, as a result, develop an intellectual and affective knowledge of God. Prior to arriving at Le Moyne in 1999, Father Maldari’s ministries included working in a prison in Mexico and teaching and providing spiritual direction in Haiti. He earned a doctorate and a master’s degree at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and a bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University.

Meet Christina B. Michaelson

Associate Professor of Psychology and Interim Director of the Center for Peace and Global Studies

While external circumstances may provide temporary peace, Christina Michaelson believes that true peace comes from within. As an associate professor of psychology, Dr. Michaelson is committed to helping her students learn, grow and develop. She believes that great teachers enter the classroom with interesting ways to engage students in learning, and that they possess the ability to help students reflect upon how they are being impacted by their education. Among the courses Dr. Michaelson teaches are Abnormal/Normal Psychology, Health Psychology, and Integrating Eastern and Western Approaches to Psychology. She earned a doctorate and a master’s degree at Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University.
