Hello! So let me tell you all about what has been going on in my life here in Cape Town for the past week…Hmm well, this weekend has been our second long weekend in a row after Easter Break and even had last Wednesday off. I made a feast for my friends the day after Easter-which was fantastic! As close as we could get to a proper Sunday dinner-on a Monday (think Jersey Shore minus the GTL and Snooki business). So it has been pretty chill for the past week although a lot of us do have work that is approaching aka moi:/ Campus has been pretty laid back lately since a lot of people have been traveling but we are slowly approaching the end of lectures, ah!

Last Wednesday, my roommate Brittney and I went shopping in Cavendish in Claremont where there a lot of boutiques and a mall. We (among half the other girls at UCT) love this store called YDE (Young Designers Emporium) where there is always an array of new ... Read More »

Welcome back, all!

This past Sunday in church was the sacrament of confirmation. The sacrament of confirmation is “in many Christian Churches a rite of initiation normally by laying on of hands and/or anointing for the purpose of bestowing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. In some denominations, confirmation bestows full membership in the church upon the recipient.”

Needless to say, this sacrament is very important in the lives and religious/spiritual future of individuals. During mass, five individuals experienced this sacrament, each one of them wearing white a red; for these are the colors which symbolize confirmation.

The mass was absolutely beautiful. The reflections given were so very touching and eye opening; reminding us all about the beauty and worth of other people in our lives. We all have such an impact on one another; wh ... Read More »

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog. I hope all is well wherever you may be-whether it be Syracuse or halfway across the world. Now that I reflect on my study abroad experience and life at home, my life here has felt so surreal. I skyped for the first time with a couple of friends back at Le Moyne (it costs me alot of internet creditsL), telling them about my life here and hearing what is going on back at home is so strange. Talking with them feels like I haven’t even left. Yesterday was my friend Mike’e twenty-first birthday so it was so exciting hearing about the party plans and what has been happening since I’ve been gone; how classes are going, who’s dating who, how loud construction can be (ya know, the usual topics). As I was telling them what I have been up to, seeing their expressions and joking about typical African ste ... Read More »

Alright, so as a white American girl from Saratoga Springs (Upstate New York) there are many differences that I have been experiencing during my time studying abroad. First of all, from being one of the only people from New York let alone upstate New York, within my program there are differences in perspectives regarding American culture. When I first got here, my first roommate I met was Brittany- a blonde-haired, blue eyed California girl from Los Angeles. She absolutely loves going to the beach and the first couple of weeks of being here she went to the beach almost every day. My other roommate, Hellen who is an Ethiopian from Denver, Colorado definitely gave our flat an interesting dynamic. From day one Hellen was very outspoken and independent. By living together we have all b ... Read More »

Comparing life at Le Moyne to the University of Cape Town is so much different, my way of life here is much different than I ever could have prepared for before coming to South Africa. There is no preparation for the friends you will meet, the experiences you will have and the culture that you will experience. From my perspective studying abroad, it is all about embracing the unknown from the familiar. Whether it is food preferences, accents, familiar products in the grocery store, music, poverty or simply everyday conversation. Everything will be more or less different than what you prepare for before you depart for your study abroad experience.

I knew that I wanted to study abroad before my freshman year of ... Read More »

Hi guys and girls!!

Happy Easter week! J It’s coming up on the end of the semester and things are starting to wind down. Final papers/projects are due soon, sports games are wrapping up, and final exams are within the next couple of weeks. While this time of year is definitely a stressful one, Easter break has presented itself at a most acceptable time; providing itself as a break amongst the hustle and bustle.

Last week held great importance for students here because registration took place. This is always a stressful time across campus because there is a mutual worry concerning “what if I get close out of my classes!?” When you have a tentative schedule planned out and then a class is closed out when your time to register comes, you’re left reconstructing a plan for ...             Hello everybody and welcome back to my blog. This past weekend was the annual Relay for Life at the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University. Le Moyne PIC or Projects in Community club sent a group of about 15 students to the relay and we raised a good sum of money for cancer research.  It was as usual a very moving experience.

This weekend I participated in Relay for Life at the Syracuse University Dome. It was an enlightening experience, and I have left with a greater appreciation for my good fortune, as well as a deeper respect for those less fortunate. The experience was an overall positive one, and I will absolutely recommend/attend others in the future.
