Rolling Stone magazine has named Communication Professor Michael Streissguth’s latest book – Outlaw: Waylon, Willie, Kris and the Renegades of Nashville – to its list of the 20 Best Music Books of 2013.

Scheduled for release in February 2014 in paperback, “Outlaw” considers the roles of various performers in transforming the music industry against the backdrop of social change in Nashville and America in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The recognition from Rolling Stone follows several other honors for the book, including USA Today naming “Outlaw” to its list of the summer's 30 hottest reads, and The Wall Street Journal called it “a riveting look at how three Texans joined forces to liberate Nashville from its company-town ways in the 1970s.” The book was also reviewed by The Washington Post, which called it an “engaging cultural history of outlaw country.”

You can also hear an interview Streissguth did last year with Soundcheck, the music and talk program distributed by National Public Radio.

The success of "Outlaw" further solidifies Streissguth's reputation as one of the music industry's leading story tellers. He is the author of several books including Johnny Cash: The Biography (Da Capo, 2006). He has produced two documentary films: Record Paradise (2012) and Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison (2008).
