About the Loyola Institute

Le Moyne College--in partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Syracuse--has developed a unique initiative for high school students at Bishop Ludden Jr./Sr. High School, Bishop Grimes Jr./Sr. High School, and Christian Brothers Academy. It's called the Loyola Institute at LeMoyne College and it allows students from these three schools to:

  • Experience the benefits of a Jesuit education

  • Get acclimated to college life while still in high school

  • Meet students at other local Catholic high schools

  • Save money while earning up to 12 college credits (see FAQ's at bottom of this page)

  • Earn an academic scholarship to Le Moyne (see FAQ's)

The faith-filled and academically-challenging environment of the Loyola Institute at Le Moyne College puts Catholic high school students in Syracuse on the fast track to success and savings in their pursuit of higher education.

Admission to Loyola

Students who are finishing the 10th grade can apply for admission to the Loyola Institute. Applicants must have an 85 academic average or its equivalent and have some demonstrated participation in school and/or community activities. To apply, students should complete the application form below and submit it to Le Moyne's Office of Continuing Education. Applicants should make arrangements with their high school to have a release form on file so that a grade report can be sent to Le Moyne for review. Admission decisions will be made starting in May.

FAQS

What Qualifies for the Loyola Institute

Designed exclusively for students currently enrolled at Bishop Ludden, Bishop Grimes and Christian Brothers Academy, the Loyola Institute requires that a student have completed the 10th grade, have at least a “B” average or 85% GPA, and be involved in service to his or her school, church or community. Students must complete a brief application process and be accepted into the program.

Students are required to successfully complete four credit-bearing undergraduate courses at Le Moyne College between the end of 10th grade and their high school graduation (see curriculum above).

Through The Loyola Institute, Catholic high school students are able to take Le Moyne undergraduate courses at a highly discounted rate of $450 per course (plus books and supplies).

Upon successful completion of The Loyola Institute’s required curriculum, a Catholic high school student will have earned one semester’s worth of college credits – a value of approximately $14,500* – by the time he or she is ready to begin college. Add the cost of a semester of room and board and that totals approximately $19,500* in savings. A student who successfully completes the required courses and is accepted for admission to Le Moyne College will receive an additional $11,000 per year in free tuition. Over a four year period, that’s more than $60,000* in savings!

* Based on 2012-2013 tuition rates

We hope every student participating in The Loyola Institute will come to feel a part of our Jesuit college community, and we encourage each of them to apply to Le Moyne. However, if a student chooses to attend another college or university, the course work completed through The Loyola Institute will still offer great value. Not only will a student be able to show college admission officers his or her proven ability to succeed academically at the college level, but a student also should be able to transfer the 12 earned course credits to most colleges or universities. He or she will save one semester’s worth of college tuition and room and board.
