    Le Moyne Creates Graduate Assistantships for Arts Administration Students

    Beginning this fall, Le Moyne will offer two paid graduate assistantships to students in the College’s growing Master of Science in Arts Administration.

    These positions will offer students the opportunity to gain expertise in fundraising, communications, event planning, data analysis, and marketing, providing a valuable opportunity to the next generation of arts managers.

    Candidates for the newly created positions will represent student diversity, in line with the program’s goals to increase diversity in the arts administration field. According to a recent study published by Grantmakers in the Arts, 78 percent of arts managers identify as white, and more men than women hold upper management positions.

    “Increasing the diversity of our graduate students reflects our mission as a Jesuit college,” says Travis Newton, assistant professor and program director of arts administration at Le Moyne. “Especially for an industry that values differences, the management side of the arts industry has some important work to do in recruiting and supporting diverse leaders.”

    Students who assume the new positions will develop skills in marketing, fundraising, financial management, nonprofit governance, human resources, and strategic planning, and will have the opportunity to travel abroad. The assistantships will include weekly pay and a tuition waiver for two courses per semester. Depending upon the position, students will study either full time or part time.

    Established in 2015, Le Moyne’s Master of Science in Arts Administration has sent alumni on to rewarding careers in the industry, including work in museums, theater companies, performing arts venues and arts councils.
