Le Moyne to Mandate Student Booster Shots for Spring Semester

As part of the College’s strategy to reduce the risk of transmission and serious illness, Le Moyne is now requiring all undergraduate and graduate students to receive a COVID-19 booster vaccination.

Individuals are eligible to receive a booster vaccination six months after the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and two months after the first dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. In order to prepare for the beginning of the spring semester, all eligible Physician Assistant Studies students should receive their booster vaccination before Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. All other eligible graduate and undergraduate students should receive their booster vaccination by Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022. Students not eligible due to the date of their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna or first dose of Johnson and Johnson must receive their booster vaccination as soon as they are eligible.

Students who received an exemption to the COVID-19 vaccination in the fall semester are encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the community from the spread of the virus. All New York state mass vaccination sites are now welcoming walk-ins without appointments, including the New York Fairgrounds site. You can register for other sites in New York here and register for vaccines for all states at this CDC link.

Requiring booster vaccinations is consistent with the health and safety protocols implemented by Le Moyne at every stage of the pandemic. “We have always placed the health and safety of our students above everything else, and this mandate does just that,” said Le Moyne President Linda LeMura.

The College will launch a new online tool within the next few weeks that students will use to submit documentation of their COVID-19 booster vaccination and flu shot. Details and instructions on how to use this will be sent out once it is operational.

More information regarding booster vaccinations for College employees will be forthcoming shortly. In the meantime, all employees are strongly encouraged to get a booster vaccination as soon as possible.

Le Moyne continues to work closely with the county and state to ensure compliance with all health and safety mandates pertaining to the pandemic. The College’s COVID Office is monitoring trends and the spread of the virus and its variants. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to monitor your Le Moyne College email during the winter break for important updates regarding the spring semester.
