Applying for Transfer Admission

A prospective transfer student at Le Moyne College is defined as a student that has graduated from high school and has taken courses for credit at a regionally accredited college or university. Students currently attending high school who are taking college courses for credit are considered prospective freshman and should consult the section Freshman Information. Candidates for admission must file an application by July 1 for fall admission and by December 1 for spring admission. The Admission Committee on a rolling basis reviews completed applications for admission, so it is advantageous to apply well in advance of these deadlines.

Completion of Application

Students applying for Transfer Admission to Le Moyne College must complete the Transfer Application. These are available by calling 315-445-4300 or writing to the Le Moyne College Office of Admission. You can also access our online application here.

Application Fee

Along with the application students must submit a $35 application fee. Checks or Money Orders should be made payable to Le Moyne College. This processing fee is not refundable.

Official Transcripts

An official transcript must be submitted from the candidates' high school and from each college attended. Applicants who have completed more than 24 college credits are not required to submit a high school transcript.

Recommendation

A recommendation from an academic adviser or dean from the last college attended must be submitted. Students who have been out of college for more than three years may substitute an employer recommendation.

Admission Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on the strength of the academic program in college, the grades earned and the applicability of coursework to a Le Moyne degree. For students transferring to Le Moyne from regionally accredited institutions, and from academic programs similar to the intended major at Le Moyne, the following guidelines usually apply.
1.     Students must have earned at least a 2.6 cumulative grade-point average to be considered for admission to most programs.

2.     Proficiency in English, Mathematics and the intended area or study must be demonstrated in the academic record. In mathematics, all students must have successfully completed at least the third year of high school college-preparatory mathematics or intermediate algebra at the college level.

Transfer of Credit

Tentative transfer credit evaluations are available at any point in the transfer process by contacting a Le Moyne transfer admission counselor. Once a student has enrolled at Le Moyne and final transcripts have been received, the registrar will complete a final review of the transfer credit evaluation. Le Moyne will accept for transfer credit only coursework satisfactorily completed at regionally accredited institutions. A maximum of 20 courses may be accepted from a two-year college and a maximum of 30 courses may be accepted from a four-year college. Courses in which grades of "D" were earned, and courses taken pass/fail will not transfer to Le Moyne.

Course Recommendations

Successful transfer often depends upon careful course selection at the previous college. For this reason, as soon as a decision is made to pursue transfer to Le Moyne, students are encouraged to meet with a Le Moyne transfer admission counselor to plan the courses to be taken prior to transferring. Appointments with a counselor may be made by calling the Office of Admission.
