The importance of a strong information systems curriculum is based in part on continuing strong demand for graduates. A strong demand for information professionals is forecasted by the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics, particularly for systems analysts, computer support personnel, web design, and networking support personnel. It is these computer support positions that the program is designed to produce.

Despite the increase in downsizing in many organizations, there is no lessening in demand for information systems knowledge and ability in organizations; on the contrary, the demand is expanding as the functional areas of organizations gain more capability in information technology. Many organizations are hiring Information Systems majors for departmental computing activities. There is also a strong demand for the Management Information Systems minor by students in other disciplines who need information systems expertise in order to be effective in their work and to assist in developing applications in their functional are.
