Selecting a Major or Majors
In addition to completing Le Moyne’s core requirements, students must choose a major for degree completion that will enable them to concentrate on depth and mastery in a particular field. The majority of students declare their major prior to arrival at Le Moyne. However, a substantial number of students remain undeclared, or exploratory, throughout their first year. If you are in this situation, special advisors trained to assist undecided students can help you explore your major and career interests.
Often, undecided students feel uncomfortable about not having a major. Unfortunately, they believe many of the myths about being undecided. Read on to get the facts about majors.
- Myth #1: Everyone else has chosen a major. I'm the only one who can't seem to choose.
- Myth #2: Being undecided is a bad thing.
- Myth #3: My major will decide my career.
- Myth #4: Once I decide on a major, I will be stuck in one career for the rest of my life.
- Myth #5: I should pick a major based on the job market.
