Perspectives in Literature (ENG 200)
encourages the enjoyment and understanding of a variety of literary
genres and individual works drawn from a range of world cultures.
Students read selections from ancient, European, and American literatures,
including works by women and minority writers, and construct critical
responses to these texts. Prerequisite: ENG 100.

Philosophical Perspectives on the Human Situation (PHL 201) examines
a variety of interpretations of the human situation, drawn from philosophical
traditions since 1650: for example, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and
western Europe. Students analyze the influences of gender and race
on these philosophical reflections. Prequisite: PHL 101. |

Religious Perspectives on the Human Situation (REL
200) introduces religion as a dimension of human experience
that affects all aspects of life. Students learn the basic concepts
and methods necessary for a critical study of religion and encounter
basic modes of religious experience and expression present in the
world's religions, with emphasis on the Jewish and Christian religious
traditions.
