The Third Year Core

English: ENG 300

Major Authors provides students the opportunity to study a major author (William Shakespeare or Mark Twain, for example) within his or her cultural and historical context. Students develop a vocabulary for analyzing texts critically and demonstrate their mastery of the material through discussion, presentations, and critical writing.

Philosophy: PHL 300

Students investigate the philosophical foundations of normative ethics in order to clarify the status of moral values in human life. Topics include the study of moral concepts, the characteristics of moral reasoning and the nature of moral responsibility. Courses are available in General Ethics (PHL 301), Issues in Ethics (PHL 302) and Great Traditions in Ethics (PHL 303). The college catalogue has descriptions of these courses.
