The Le Moyne College Core Program

First Year Courses
Four courses -- 12 credits
These courses develop the theme Foundations of Western Culture and emphasize the basic skills, intellectual habits, and historical background required for successful college work.
Second Year Courses
Three courses -- 9 credits
These courses develop the theme Perspectives on the Human Situation through a study of worldviews in literary, philosophical, and religious texts from both western and non-western cultures, with an emphasis on issues of gender and race.
Third Year Courses
Three courses -- 9 credits
Students explore major western and non-western authors, philosophical ethics, and a range of topics in religious studies.
Fourth Year Seminars
Two seminars -- 6 credits
Students integrate course work in the Core Program and in their majors and refine their critical writing and oral presentation skills in seminars in English or History and Philosophy or Religious Studies.
Natural Sciences
One course -- 3 credits
These course options, designed for non-science majors, develop scientific literacy and a critical perspective on scientific method.
Social Sciences
One course --
3 credits
These course options offer models for intepreting human behavior, understanding the effects of race, gender, and class on personal identity and social interaction, and insight into economic, political, and psychological forces that shape society and culture.
