Le Moyne College's Academic Vice President, John Smarrelli, is pleased to welcome the following tenure-track faculty members to the college community

Accounting

M.S. in finance, University of Rochester, May 1984
B.S. in accounting, State University of New York at Buffalo, December 1974
Licensed as a CPA in New York State in 1977.

Tax (ACT 310, ACT 410, ACT 420)
Financial accounting (ACT 501)

Research interests:
Stock dividends and stock splits
Stock market dynamics on the Warsaw stock exchange

James Hannan
Assistant Professor, Contemporary Anglophone Literature
English

Courses he will teach:
Major Authors: Salman Rushdie; Contemporary Anglophone Literature; Literary Dimensions of Contemporary Diaspora; Perspectives in Literature; Critical Writing.

Research interests:
Contemporary literature in English and in translation; Caribbean literature; postcolonial writing and theory; modernity, postmodernity, and globalization; posthuman writing, film, and theory.

What attracted me to Le Moyne:
I appreciate Le Moyne's committment to a vision of social justice and to a liberal arts education that considers the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of our students. I am also excited to join a collegial, intellectually engaged, and dynamic English department that supports excellence in teaching and scholarship.

 

Susan  Havranek
Assistant Professor

Courses she will teach:
Accounting Principles, Advanced Accounting

Research Interests:
Accounting Theory and Research and Forensic accounting. My research interests focus on market reaction to voluntary disclosures made by management. Specifically, I look at the timing and wording of information released by management prior to class action litigation to see if managment is able to avoid or limit the cost of litigation by timing the release of information or using specific types of wording. I am also interested in how variations in the presentation of information impacts the market reaction to the information.

What attracted me to Le Moyne:
I was attracted to LeMoyne for several reasons. First, I wanted to work at a school where I had an opportunity to interact with students for more than one semester. I am looking forward to the smaller class sizes and the fact that I will have students in several classes over their degree experience. Second, while I enjoy the research aspect of my work, I wanted to be at an institution where effort in the classroom was equally valued. Third, I feel strongly that as educators we have a responsibility to address issues such as community service and social justice. LeMoyne's mission fits nicely with my beleifs. Finally, I grew up in the Fayetteville/ DeWitt area and wanted an opportunity to raise my children in a similar community.

Holly Rine

Courses she will teach: Colonial History of the US, American Revolution and Republic, American History Surveys, and I will be developing courses on Native American History.

Research Interests: I research:
Native American and European relations during the seventeenth century in the Hudson and Mohawk River valleys. I am particularly interested in how the city of Albany became and served as a center for Anglo-Indian diplomacy in the seventeenth century.

What attracted me to Le Moyne:
I was attracted to Le Moyne's mission and committment to both liberal arts education and service to work for social justice. I was also impressed with the accomplishments of members of the faculty as both educators and scholars. I am looking forward to working with students, faculty and staff at Le Moyne.

Diane Zigo, CSJ, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Literacy Education
Education Department

Ph.D., English Education, State University of New York at Buffalo

Courses she will teach:
Undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education in the Education Department.

Research interests:
Fostering empowering literacies among children from culturally and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds; Effective ways to promote family-community-school connections in literacy learning.

What attracted me to Le Moyne College:
Reputation—Le Moyne has always had a strong reputation for solid academics and community service.

Location—I have lived and worked in Central New York before and feel very much at home in this region. In addition, my own religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, has a long history of ministry in the Diocese of Syracuse.

Jesuit tradition—I have hoped to continue my professional career in a Catholic liberal arts college, ideally in the Jesuit tradition.
