WHAT IS INVOLVED IN TAKING AN ONLINE COURSE?
Online courses are taught completely via the Internet using the Le Moyne's
Blackboard course management system. The course activities may include:
reading assignments, working on projects, participating in virtual class
discussions, and/or taking exams.
As with regular campus courses, you will be expected to interact with
the instructor and other students in the class. This interaction will
occur by reading postings on the dicussion board and typing your responses
or via the Virtual Classroom, a real-time interactive chat and positing
tool. . The most successful online students become very involved in the
class and participate frequently.
WHO SHOULD CONSIDER TAKING AN ONLINE COURSE?
Students who are self-motivated, independent learners who have excellent
reading and study skills are often most successful in on-line classrooms.
Although on-line classes provide flexibility, they should NOT be considered
an easier alternative to taking a course on campus.
Taking an on-line course often requires more time and effort than an
on campus course. The advantage of this format is for those who live a
great distance from campus or do not have a schedule that allows regular
attendance on a specific day and time in a classroom. Since the course
in online, students may work whenever it is convenient (at noon, midnight,
6 a.m. or any hours in between). To determine whether online learning
is for you, please take the Self-Assessment
Quiz.
