Pre-Professional Work Experiences

The Office of Career Services at Le Moyne College makes no representation or guarantee about positions listed by Career Services and is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions or other aspects of off-campus employment. It is the responsibility of students/alumni to research job vacancies and the integrity of organizations to which they are applying. Care and common sense should be taken when applying for any position. Concerns or complaints about any organization posting through Career Services should be reported to a staff member immediately.

Pre-professional positions are essentially valuable part-time jobs. Many students and employers call them internships because they help students gain valuable experience and prepare for careers. They can last from one semester to two years or more! The types of positions that fall in this category are almost always business related. Below is a current list of positions that we have information on and for which we will be forwarding resumes.

No. 1 Bus, Fin, Mth - Any Year - - HM LIFE INSURANCE CO OF NY, E. Syracuse, NY
Need student for Fall to work in the area of Employee Benefits (Specifically Health Insurance). Will learn aspect of employee benefit plan design, funding, risk and self funded plan alternatives. Work with large group benefit consultants, brokers and third party administrators all over Upstate NY. Requirements include advanced Excel kowledge and general microsoft computer knowledge. 15-25 hours a week. Start in September 2008 and continue through Spring 2009 semester. No. 2 All Majors - Soph, Jr. or Sr. - - DEMOCRACY MATTERS INSTITUTE, INC. Hamilton, NY
Responsibilities include building coalitions of student activists on your campus, organize teach-ins on money in politics. Train college students to run workshops in high school. Coordinate with other colleges in sponsoring reform legislation. Lobby and educate elected officials about campaign finance reform. Run petition drive and door-to-door canvasses to educate students on the issue of money in politics. Create a Democracy Matters chapter that can work with students, faculty and community activists to get private money out of politics and people back in. Applicants should have a commitment to social change and some organizing experience. No expertise in campaign finance reform is required. 10 hours a week starting September 1. No. 3 Bus - Jr. Sr. - - NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL FIN, Syracuse, NY
Student would schedule Center of Influence meeting with professors and career counselors for recruiter, attend career fairs, assist during college intern intervieew days, attend recruiting meetings and help prepare activity report, manage campus internship advertising, including newspapers, posters, flyers. Administer profiling tools and follow up, assist with intern training class. Must be a FT student at a four year insitituion and have strong interpersonal skills, be self motivated and well organized. Salary is $300 every two weeks. No. 5 Fin - Jr. Sr. - Junior Associate - M&D Financial, Syracuse, NY
Student will work with existing and new clients to help evaluate current situation and help fit or create solutions for their retirement oriented problems. Student will work with insurance and various investment vehicles to help smooth retirement transitions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. A national leader in electronic monitoring services is looking for a Fall Marketing Intern who will support the Marketing Department. Primary responsibilities will include quality control checks on current customers, creating sales leads on potential customers and overall support of the Marketing Department. Students will gain valuable work experience. Student should be in good standing 3.0 GPA, excellent customer service skills, excellent communication skills and MS Office skills. Student would be responsible for covering the front desk with a top level professional attitude. Greet visitors and answer incoming telephone calls. Responsibilities include greeting and directing visitors in a professional and pleasant manner. Answer main telephone lines and direct callers to appropriate individuals. Coordinate the use of 3 conference rooms and other public areas. Perform other tasks as assigned. Position requires experience and proven understanding of general office procedures. No. 8 ACT - Sr. - City Auditor Internship - CITY OF SYRACUSE, Syracuse, NY
The City of Syracuse Office of the City Auditor is an independent office in city government. The City Auditor is charged with conducting audits in compliance with Government Auditing Professional Standards for the City of Syracuse, City School District, Syracuse Housing Authority and all components of the city government including water, airport, SIDA, SEDCO, etc. The City Auditor conducts numerous financial audits throughout the year in compliance with the Syracuse City Charter. This position is ideally suited for an accounting major seeking both governmental auditing experience and an opportunity to earn up to $5,000 stipend. Candidate should have the following skills: Good knowledge of accounting principals and procedures and the ability to apply such knowledge to auditing accounting records. Good knowledge of the principles and procedues governing auditing of financial records. Some knowledge of office methods and procedures and familiarity with the use of standard office equipment. Ability to prepare complete and accurate audit reports and ability to perform detailed work involving written or numeric data and to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately.
