Departmental Honors in Chemistry
Departmental Honors in Chemistry are available for outstanding students who major in chemistry. To receive departmental honors, a student must have a grade point average of 3.3 (B+) or greater both within the chemistry major and overall. He or she must also pursue research in chemistry for at least two semesters and present that research to the department orally and in a written report. (The oral presentation is to be aimed at an audience with chemistry degrees; therefore, it is in addition to the presentation for the wide variety of natural science backgrounds represented in the Natural Sciences seminar series.) The student must complete at least four credits of research and/or appropriate independent study.
Students interested in pursuing departmental honors must inform the chair of the department no later than October 1 of their final year.
