Dear Family,
Le Moyne College’s 58th Commencement is fast approaching and there are several details I want to relay to you in preparation for this important event. Follow the link for a summary of Commencement related activity that will also be sent to graduating seniors.
On Saturday, May 17th at 4:30 p.m., a Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated in the Athletic Center of the Thomas J. Niland, Jr. Athletic Complex for all graduates and their families. A reception will follow in the LaCasse Dining Center.
On Sunday, May 18th, the students will assemble downstairs in the Onondaga County War Memorial at 9:15 a.m. for robing. The academic procession will begin at 10:10 a.m. followed by the Commencement Ceremony. Due to the fact that the ceremony will be held at the War Memorial, there is no limit set on the number of family members and friends who can be invited to Commencement.
Follow the link for information regarding access to War Memorial and parking. There are several off-street parking lots near the War Memorial in addition to a parking garage. In recent years, the enjoyment of this event has been marred by premature rejoicing as students have opened bottles of champagne which they have carried into the ceremony—sometimes with the help of family members or friends. I therefore ask your assistance in maintaining the necessary decorum so that all can celebrate the achievement of the graduates in a pleasant and dignified manner during the ceremony.
Please review the Special Arrangements Page for seating for persons with a disability. If any family member requires seating that can accommodate a wheelchair or walker, the flyer should answer most of your questions regarding this matter. Unfortunately the War Memorial can only provide limited seating to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. As a result, seating in these areas can only be provided for the individual with the disability and one additional family member. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this please feel free to contact John Haley at (315) 445-4525.
Please see the accomodations page for a list of local hotels. In addition to that list, we have reserved a limited number of rooms at the Quality Inn, 6611 Old Collamer Rd., 432-9333. You must call to reserve one of these rooms by May 1st to get the Le Moyne College rate of $59. Click here for additional information on Quality Inn.
The College has contracted with "Chappell Graduation Images" to take individual photographs of each graduate as he/she receives their diploma for the President. This company will contact you after graduation with a picture proof of your son or daughter to purchase, if you wish. Because of the extensive coverage, restrictions will be placed on photography by family members.
