EDG 748 Teaching High School Regents and Honors Chemistry
Instructor: Jamie Cucinotta
Course Description
This is a one week seminar designed for teachers with little or no experience teaching high school chemistry. Although experienced teachers may find the course useful, it is designed to assist new instructors in their early years of teaching. This will be a combination content and pedagogy course. The focus will be on preparing teachers to teach a high school course for college-bound students. In New York state this is Regents Chemistry, but the content will be applicable for teachers from any state. We will also discuss differences between what is appropriate for a basic (core) course versus an honors level course. We will spend some time discussing New York standards and linking topics to them, but this will not be a major focus of the course and should not deter teachers from other states from participating.
We will spend time in a laboratory setting. We will also look at different demonstrations that are appropriate for each topic.
