EDG 793 Introduction to Astrobiology
Instructor:
Susan Sharp
Course Description
This one-week course is designed for those teachers interested in guiding their students to find the answers to the following questions. How does life begin and evolve? What is the future of life on Earth and elsewhere? Are we alone in the universe? Questions about the origin of life on Earth and elsewhere have long fascinated humans. It is only recently, however, that modern science has been in a position to provide some elements of answers to these questions. The objective of this exciting hands-on science course is to discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of the formation and development of the universe with emphasis on the processes responsible for the origin of life, evolution of life, hominid evolution, planetary and cosmic evolution, as well as the evolution of technology. Participants will travel through time from the moment of the Big Bang to the present, on Earth and beyond, using computer-based technology and field experiences to enhance their knowledge and formulate their answers to the above questions.
