AHANA ProgramThe AHANA Program (African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American) was established to enable Le Moyne to expand its enrollment of students of color. The students admitted to this program fit the general profile of HEOP students:
Under normal circumstances, AHANA students would not be accepted through regular admission. In general these students have potential but can improve their chances of success with additional academic support. In addition, some of these students are not eligible for HEOP consideration because they are not residents of New York State. Given their academic situation, AHANA students are required to participate in a structured academic support program similar to that of the HEOP students. This participation includes attending a five-week pre-freshman summer program and taking part in academic support programs throughout the freshman year. One component of the academic support program is a weekly structures study session, Learning Strategies, conducted by the director of the Academic Support Center. Attendance at these sessions is required of all AHANA students. Depending on their performance during the summer, the students may be assigned to a developmental mathematics course and/or a developmental writing course in the fall semester. These developmental courses assist in preparing students for the entry level courses in that particular discipline. The AHAHA students are also expected to participate in any small group tutoring sessions established by the Learning Support Specialist to assist them in individual courses. While the AHANA students are not eligible for financial assistance through HEOP, financial aid is available based on need as reflected in their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). During the summer, Le Moyne covers the costs of room, board, tuition, books, and a weekly stipend. In addition, because AHANA students are required to attend the summer programs, the summer savings portion of their financial aid package is replaced with other forms of aid.
