History at Le Moyne
At
Le Moyne, history is regarded as a critical component of the liberal
arts core curriculum; all students,
regardless of major take at least two semesters of history. The
department focuses on both specific coverage of the globe and on
diversity of approach - legal, intellectual, political, social and
cultural. Our goal is to bring the past to life in the classroom,
so that each student is able to acquire the analytical ability necessary
for historical study.
Besides
providing a background for any student interested in a truly liberal
education, our major prepares students for almost any career,
from law to business to teaching at levels stretching from the elementary
to the post-secondary. We recognize
that students will develop their own perspectives on the past, but
we all share the exciting idea that the past is a road that leads
to the present and informs the future. As John Quincy Adams succinctly
put it: "We are who we are because of who we were."
