SUBJECT: WORK SCHEDULE/OVERTIME/PAY PRACTICES POLICY STATEMENT
POLICY STATEMENT:
The College will endeavor to maintain standard work schedules consistent with College requirements, employment practices, and good business management. Le Moyne College intends to compensate non exempt employees equitably for time worked in excess of forty (40) hours in one week.
IMPLEMENTATION:
1. Work Schedule: a. The normal work week consists of 35 hours in five (5) working days. Officially, the work week begins Monday at 12:01 a.m. and ends at midnight on Sunday. b. The normal workday consists of seven (7) hours. Normal office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., which allows one hour for lunch. c. It may be necessary for supervisors to change an employee's work hours to accommodate the specific needs of the department. Any deviations from normal office hours should be reported to the Personnel Office. d. Summer hours: 1) The Personnel Office will announce a schedule of summer hours annually. 2) Summer office hours Monday through Thursday are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with 1/2 hour for lunch; Friday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 3) Friday will count as a full day for purposes of sick, vacation, compensatory and personal time. 4) When completing time sheets, use seven and one half (7.5) hours worked Monday through Thursday and four (4) hours worked on Friday. Although this constitutes a 34 hour week, employees are paid for 35 hours. 2. Overtime: a. All overtime must have the prior approval of the immediate supervisor unless included in the regular schedule. b. Scheduled work done by non exempt employees in excess of forty (40) hours in one week will be compensated at l l/2 times their regular hourly rate. c. Employees working over 35 hours but less than 40 hours in a work week may be granted compensatory time off in lieu of pay. d. Compensatory time must be scheduled and approved by the employee's immediate supervisor prior to time worked. 2. Overtime (cont'd): e. All compensatory time must be documented on the employee's time sheet and recorded in the Payroll Office. f. All compensatory time must be used within the same pay period in which it was earned. g. All compensatory time that cannot be taken within the same pay period should be approved for payment by the V.P., prior to the time worked. 3. Pay Practices: a. The normal pay period for employees is two (2) weeks. b. Time worked will be recorded by employees on time sheets. Department heads/supervisors will ensure employees record their time accurately. c. Time paid for sick leave, bereavement leave, holidays, or vacation will not be calculated in determining eligibility for overtime pay.
