Personnel Policy Manual for Support Staff
SUBJECT: GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
POLICY STATEMENT:
The College recognizes that problems involving employer-employee relations will arise from time to time. The College believes that it is in the best interest of both the College and the employee to resolve these matters as quickly and as close to the source as possible. In order that employees may be assured fair consideration of their problem(s), a means of review and appeal, without prejudice, has been established.
IMPLEMENTATION:
1. The employee should first attempt to resolve the grievance informally by discussing it with the immediate supervisor.
2. If the matter is not resolved to the employee's satisfaction through informal discussion, the employee may proceed to the formal grievance stage by presenting the grievance in writing to the immediate supervisor describing the dates and the facts on which it is based and the remedy or corrective action sought. The supervisor will have five (5) working days in which to provide the employee with a written response.
3. If the employee is not satisfied with the response from the immediate supervisor, the employee may take the grievance to the Director of Personnel within five (5) workings days from the time the response was received. The Director of Personnel will meet with the employee and the supervisor and attempt to work out a mutually satisfactory agreement, and will provide the employee with a written response within ten (10) working days.
4. If the employee is not satisfied with the response received from the Director of Personnel, the employee may, within five (5) working days, take the matter to the appropriate Vice President, who will have ten (10) working days in which to provide a decision which will be final and binding on all parties. All time limits may be extended by agreement of the parties.
