Personnel Policy Manual for Support Staff

SUBJECT: PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS

POLICY STATEMENT:

The performance of employees will be evaluated at periodic intervals. Employees should have a performance appraisal three (3) months after joining the College, or changing jobs within the College, and as scheduled annually thereafter. Situations may indicate the need for more frequent reviews. The time periods are given only as maximums. The Performance Evaluation Forms (See Exhibit #'s 415A, B, C & D) will be used to measure the performance of the responsibilities of the written job description and serve as a development program for future job performance.

IMPLEMENTATION:

1. The Personnel Office will distribute the appropriate forms as prescribed by College policy.

2. The supervisor evaluating performance will discuss with the employee the results of the evaluation and over-all job performance. Both the employee and the supervisor sign the annual report, and the employee receives a copy. The employee's signature does not mean agreement with the evaluation, but that it has been seen.

3. Employees who feel they were rated unfairly should express their objection in writing. This will become an addition to the performance report. The employee's supervisor will have the right to read such an objection and to respond to it in writing; the supervisor's reply also will become part of the performance report.

4. Completed evaluations are kept in the employee's personnel file and may serve as the basis for promotion, transfers, discipline up to dismissal, or other administrative actions.
