Retiree Task Force

In an effort to make sure Le Moyne is doing its best within its means to provide solid retiree healthcare benefits, the College and its Board of Trustees concluded that a comprehensive review of our current program was warranted. A task force was established to conduct this assessment and make recommendations for the future. This retiree health benefits task force is a cross-functional group which includes active employee and retiree representation, as well as external consultants.

The main objectives of the task force were to identify options which will:

  • result in a sustainable solid program that is both a prudent level of commitment of the College's resources in context of its mission and long-term success; and
  • provide access to reasonable and quality healthcare benefits for Le Moyne's eligible retirees.
  • This is a proactive effort to enhance our ongoing review of the needs of our retirees, to support our employees in their planning for retirement, and to ensure that Le Moyne can provide the best retiree health benefits plan within our financial resources.

The Committee studied available insurance models and benefit structures. After this extensive education process, the members began exploring and debating the current benefit structure and defining important elements of the new program. Near the beginning of the process the Committee held open forums to exchange information with active employees and retirees regarding the initiative, health care trends, and needs and concerns of current and future retirees of the College. These sessions provided many of the components you will see in our proposal.

As we committed to you in the spring, we are now holding open forums to present the Committee's conclusions and proposed amended retiree health benefits plan. Your involvement and feedback at these sessions will help us make final adjustments to the new Plan design. The new Plan will then be presented to the President for approval in coming weeks.

In an effort to provide you with a basis for discussion, we have prepared a newsletter to highlight some of the recommendations. The newsletter can be viewed online or you can obtain a copy in the Office of Human Resources.

We look forward to seeing you at the forums to discuss the retiree health benefits program.
