Response To Increase in Unwanted E-mail (SPAM)

Information Technology staff plan to modify the College's anti-spam configuration in response to a surge in SPAM from @lemoyne.edu addresses. This is a common practice among spammers and, of late, appears to have resulted in an increased quantity of e-mail with adult content and advertisements reaching your inbox.

The College's anti-spam product is currently configured to "white list" (trust) most e-mail received from @lemoyne.edu addresses. Our anti-spam vendor has recommended that we discontinue this practice to improve the effectiveness of the spam filtering.

Unfortunately, this may result in some legitimate e-mail from co-workers/students being identified as SPAM and placed into your e-mail quarantine. We believe that the benefits will outweigh the inconvenience and intend to implement the change, end of business, on Friday, May 9.

Users will still have the ability to add the lemoyne.edu domain to their personal white list in GW Guardian (http://gwgweb.lemoyne.edu/Quarantine).

Thank You,
Information Technology

Information Regarding Office Changes

As preparations begin for office moves during the summer months, the Telecommunications Offices wants to remind everyone of the College's policies concerning office changes. In order to insure the integrity of the College's internal E911 system, it is the College policy to keep campus extensions consistent with the rooms to which they are assigned. Additional information on this policy can be found within the Campus Directory (page ii)

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have additional questions about this policy, please call the Telecommunications Office at extension 4101.
