Secure Printing for Windows Vista

IT has added the ability to print to Residence Hall computer lab printers directly from student owned Windows XP computers. Currently, Novell has not released a Windows Vista version of the necessary client. Vista users will need to follow these work around instructions.

Print jobs will be directed to the chosen residence hall printer and will print with a cover sheet which will show the owner, job name, date / time submitted and number of pages attached. These print jobs will count against your printer quota just as if you were to print directly from the computer lab. Please be sure that you go to the computer lab and pick up your print job as quickly as possible and please make sure that you are only taking pages that belong to your print job.

Work around instructions:
1. Go to Microsoft's Add Printer Wizard
2. Choose Network printer
3. Click the "Stop" button to stop the wizard from scanning for network printers.
4. Select 'The printer that I want isn't listed'
5. Select the first 'shared printer by name' box.
6. Type the following URL - http://print.lemoyne.edu/ipps/[printer name]

where [printer name] is one of the following:

HP4250_FL_Secure
HP4000_DB_Secure
HP4000_HARRIS_Secure
HP4000_MI_Secure
HP4000_NELL_Secure
HP5000_STMARY_Secure

Put your Network userid and password (no context required) in the Vista authentication box.

7. Select the appropriate driver if prompted.
8. Finish the installation.

Windows Vista support will be improved as soon as Novell releases the iPrint client for Vista and modifications are made to our printing environment to support it. We anticipate these modifications will be complete prior to the start of the Spring semester.
