"A Christian Community Dedicated to Social Action"
|
 |
Ignatian House was founded in 1963
by seven Jesuits, including prominent peace activist Rev. Daniel
Berrigan, S.J. Originally, IH members trained academically and spiritually
to spend a summer of service in Mexico, hence our name. Since 1966,
IH's works have been focused on service in the Syracuse area and
consciousness raising on campus. Our name, however, reminds us both
of our history and of out calling to help bring about a more just
world. Over the years, IH has provided a unique medium for Le Moyne
Students to carry out the ideals of Christian social action and
continues to do so today. |
 |
Throughout our long history, IH members
have been animated by the scriptural citation from the Gospel of
John: "The branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it remain
on the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me." This
citation encourages all IH members to remember that though we and
those we serve are diverse and many, we are all one in Christ. As
the center of the IH community, our faith in Christ continually
challenges us to seek justice and to do more for all God's people.
Ultimately, IH is a challenge to be part of a Christian community
and build relationships based on the joys of serving the poor and
eachother. |
