Le Moyne’s newest club sport, the Le Moyne Equestrian Team, got its official start this fall. Nicolle Madonna, accomplished rider and trainer, serves as the head coach, and Le Moyne alum Katherine Greene ’12 is coordinator of fundraising and media relations.
The team’s goal is to work with riders of all abilities in order to build a solid foundation of proper equestrian training and horsemanship. The team focuses on instilling the values of hard work and dedication in each of its riders to achieve positive results.
A total of 25 students are part of the inaugural team, demonstrating the popularity of equestrianism in Central New York. Le Moyne’s Equestrian Team practices at CNY EQ, which is owned by Madonna and located within 10 minutes of campus.
The team is open to both male and female students, and one doesn’t need to own a horse to join. Students of all levels, from beginners to those with riding experience, are welcome. The team also takes part in competitions under the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s (IHSA) guidelines. The association hosts around 8 to 10 shows each academic year, as well as regional and national finals, and the team competes at a variety of host schools throughout the region including Cazenovia College, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Geneseo, Skidmore College and SUNY Morrisville.
