Patron Code of Conduct

The primary mission of the Falcone Library is to fulfill the information needs of students, faculty, and staff as they relate to the educational role of the College. Its secondary mission is to meet the broader intellectual and recreational interests of the College community. The Library also provides the general public with limited access to its collections, facilities, and services.

The following policies have been adopted in order to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming atmosphere, conducive to the appropriate use of facilities, staff, services, and materials.

The following activities are prohibited within the Library:

  • Any use of alcohol or tobacco.
  • Selling or soliciting.
  • Loud or unreasonable noise. (Please restrict cell phone use to the front area of the first floor.)
  • Intentionally damaging, destroying, or stealing library property, or patron's or employee's property.
  • Removing library materials from the Library without authorization through established lending procedures.
  • Presence in staff-only areas without permission of staff.
  • Misuse of restrooms.
  • Posting materials anywhere in the library other than on the bulletin boards in the entrance of the Library.
  • Any other illegal activity or conduct in violation of federal, N.Y. State, local, or campus law, ordinance, or regulation.
  • Disclosing College or Library issued usernames and passwords to non-authorized persons

Failure to comply with these rules and regulations may result in Library staff calling the campus Security or the local police. Patrons found violating these rules may be charged and brought before the Le Moyne College Peer Review Board, or, if appropriate, before a court of law.

Theft and destruction of library materials and facilities result in losses for everyone. Money spent to replace stolen or vandalized materials is money that could have been used to purchase additional materials. Furthermore, destroyed materials are no longer available to those who need them to complete assignments or further their education or research.

The College Judicial System exists to prosecute violations and provide disciplinary action when necessary. The System is described in detail in the Le Moyne College Student Handbook.

Cases of theft and vandalism involving Le Moyne College students are referred to the Office of Student Development, and in some cases are also referred to the Peer Review Board for a hearing. If the student is found guilty, penalties may range from service in the Library to a monetary assessment covering the repair or replacement of the damage materials.

Problems involving non-Le Moyne faculty, staff, or students are referred to the De Witt Police Department.
