REFERENCE ASSISTANCE

Reference staff are prepared to

  • answer questions from the simple to the complex
  • help you find resources for your research assignments
  • teach classes in library research strategies
  • work individually with students on their projects by appointment

PERSONALIZED ASSISTANCE

Librarians will work with students and faculty in a one-on-one situation should they request assistance using the online catalog, other databases on the network, or print resources. . See the guide SEARCHING SIMON for more information about the online catalog system.

REFERENCE ASSISTANCE 24/7

Online reference assistance is available any time by clicking on the Live Help 24/7 button on all the Library web pages. You may get a Le Moyne librarian, but usually you will get a librarian at another Jesuit institution. You can also e-mail your reference questions, and in general expect an answer within 24 hours. The reference desk staff can also be reached by phone any time the Library is open (see Library Hours).

LIBRARIAN HOURS

A librarian is available either at Reference Services or by appointment in their offices during most of the time the Library is open. During the fall and spring semesters, the librarians' hours at the desk are as follows. The rest of the time the desk is covered by specially-trained student assistants or a staff assistant.

1:00 pm - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Monday - Thursday
Noon - 8:00pm Sunday

LIBRARY WEB PAGE

Most of the library's subscriptions to databases and e-journals are accessible from the journal titles index within SIMON

Subject lists of electronic databases, sub-pages for each academic discipline, will link students to the essential electronic and print resources.

INTERLIBRARY SERVICES

is a consortium of NY libraries which share resources (currently only books). When you do not find a book in our own library, or our copy is checked out, you may search in the Connect NY collection and request that the book be sent to the Falcone Library where you may check it out for three weeks, with one renewal. The Connect NY icon can be found on all the Simon pages.

Requests to borrow books not found in the Connect NY catalog, and journal articles from other libraries are transacted at Reference Services or use the online InterLibrary Loan forms. Referrals to local libraries and other information centers are sometimes recommended. See the guide INTERLIBRARY SERVICES for more information.

ACCESS TO SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

Materials housed in special collections include Rare Books, Archives, Le Moyne Authors, McGrath Collection, and Jesuitica Collection. All are reflected in the online catalog and may be used in-house on a request basis when a librarian is available.

REFERENCE WORKSTATIONS AND COMPUTERS

The ten computers near the Reference Services desk, and the two on the second floor, are primarily for accessing SIMON and the subscribed databases mounted on the Library’s Web site, but may also be used for any College resources and work. Three computers do not require a Novell login and may be used by anyone for library research. Printing is not possible from these three computers.

All campus labs and clusters are limited to those with College Novell network login rights:

  • Le Moyne students
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Alumni may gain access to the College’s Novell network with special permission from Reference Services staff, but may be asked to show proof of alumni status.

Special patrons wishing to use a computer for work other than library research must go to the public library.
