WHO MAY BORROW?Borrowing privileges are extended to the public and alumni, who are designated as special patrons for borrowing purposes. Alumni and the general public must present a special patron card to check out Library materials. This card may be obtained by filling out a special patron application and presenting two forms of identification, one of which must be a picture ID. In addition, a parent or guardian must sign the application for patrons under the age of 18. The card will be issued immediately to the patron. ID cards must be presented for any circulation transaction. LOAN PERIODSBooks may be checked out by special patrons for a period of three weeks. Media collections have been developed primarily to serve the curriculum; therefore, priority for use is given to Le Moyne students and faculty in support of class assignments. The viewing of videos is restricted to Le Moyne students and employees. Periodicals are very heavily used, and therefore must be read in the Library. Photocopy services are available; for more information see COPY SERVICES below. RIGHT TO PRIVACYThe Library strictly enforces New York State law maintaining the confidentiality of circulation records and non-disclosure of a borrower's name without consent of the borrower. Patrons have the right to protection of any personal information pursuant to current legal codes. NY Civ Prac Law, Section 4509 (Consol. 1982), amended 1988, protects the confidentiality of library records, except with a search warrant. The ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom has a web page on the new USA PATRIOT Act, as well as a link to the Act itself. ONLINE RENEWALS & DUE DATESPatrons may view the due dates of items they have out in circulation and renew their own materials online. From the library homepage select My Account. This will prompt you for your name (First and Last) and your ID/Special Patron card barcode number. Once the information is input, you will be taken to another page with several choices. Select CHECKED OUT ITEMS. Next you will have two options for renewal: either renew all (button on left side of page) or click in the box beside individual book, and then renew. Make sure to check the screen as error messages may indicate that you are prohibited from renewing a particular item. A book may be renewed once unless it has already been renewed, is overdue, has requested by another patron, or has been/is to be placed on course reserve. Items that are overdue may not be renewed. In additional to renewing online via My Account, books may be renewed by phone by calling 445-4325. RECALLS AND HOLDSIf another patron wants a book that is currently checked out, that book may be recalled if the due date exceeds three weeks. If the book is due within three weeks, a reminder will be sent to return the material on time with no renewal. A hold request form should be filled out at Circulation Services. Materials needed for course reserves are subject to recall at any time. SEARCHESWhen a patron cannot find a book on the open shelves and it is not checked out, he/she may fill out a search request form at Circulation Services. The book will be searched in the Library and the patron will be notified by phone or mail of the search results. OVERDUE MATERIALSSince patrons receive a "date due" slip upon checkout, the library is not obligated to notify patrons of an impending due date. Due dates are also available online (see ONLINE RENEWALS & DUE DATES above). Secondly, the assessment of fines is not tied to when or whether the patron receives an overdue notice via e-mail or regular mail. A minimum $5 fine is assessed and cannot be waived once a bill is generated. All patrons are responsible for the replacement of lost or damaged library materials and are subject to suspended library privileges. All fines are paid at Circulation Services. Until fines and fees are paid, library privileges are suspended. If the patron is a student at Syracuse University, the account is turned over to the SU Library. Once materials are overdue, they may not be renewed. All notices are sent to the borrower’s college e-mail account (either xxx@lemoyne.edu or xxx@stu.lemoyne.edu) for faculty, students and staff. Special patrons receive print notices unless they provide an e-mail address to Circulation Services INTERLIBRARY LOANInterlibrary loan privileges cannot be extended to special patrons. Alumni may use the Interlibrary Services, provided that they are not students elsewhere. If we do not own material that a patron requires, that material must be requested through the interlibrary loan department of a public or academic library with which the patron is affiliated. EXIT SECURITYAll patrons must enter and exit through the electronic surveillance system at the Library's main doors. When a patron sets off the alarm, the Library reserves the right to inspect the patron's belongings for materials that have not been properly checked out. Individual cases of theft or abuse of library property by non-Le Moyne patrons are referred to the Campus Security office and the De Witt Police. REFERENCE COMPUTER WORKSTATIONSThe ten computers near the Reference Services desk, along with the two on the second floor, are primarily for accessing Simon and the other databases mounted on the Library’s web site. The general public may use one of two workstations that require no login. The Library asks that personal Internet use and other software application use be confined to the instructional lab and the computer cluster. All campus labs and clusters are limited to those with College Novell network login rights. Alumni may gain access to the College’s Novell network with special permission from Reference Services staff, but may be asked to show proof of alumni status. Special patrons wishing to use a computer must go to a public library. COPY SERVICESPhotocopy machines are located on the first floor in the reference area. Change is not given at the desks. The current machines will give change back only for $1 bills. Higher denomination bills can only be used to encode a copy card with $5, $10, or $20 worth of discounted copies. A self service microform copier is available for use with the same type of copy card at the same cost per copy. Photocopying all materials must comply with the Copyright Revision Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. Sec. 101 et seq. |
