Laptop Check-Out Policy

Eligible Borrowers

  • Le Moyne College faculty, staff and students only.
  • YOU MUST HAVE A VALID LE MOYNE COLLEGE ID – no exceptions!
  • If you have any unpaid fines associated with overdue or lost materials or damaged laptops you will not be able to borrow a laptop until these fines are cleared.
  • Borrowers must fill out a “Laptop Loan Agreement Form” at the Media Services Desk.

Loan Period

Three hours or less depending on what time the laptop is checked out. There is no renewal. Available on a first-come first-served basis. However, laptops can be booked in advance.

Types of Laptops Available

  • The DELL INSPIRON 1100 Laptops (4 computers)
    DO NOT have floppy drives. Patrons must login to their Novell account using ECHO and save their work in the user area.
  • The DELL INSPIRON 2650 laptops (2 computers)
    Are equipped with a floppy drive. Patrons can either save their work to floppy or to their user area on the Novell network using ECHO.

Booking/Reserving a laptop for use

To reserve a laptop for use in the Library at a specific time, call 445-4329. The laptop may be checked out to another patron if it is not picked up within 15 minutes of the booked time.

Hours of Service

Laptops may be checked out for use within the Library during Library hours, and returned 1/2 hour before closing.

Responsibility

  • Users must sign an agreement form that covers their responsibility and verifies the condition of the laptop at checkout and check-in.
  • The user who checks out a laptop is responsible for any loss or damage until the laptop is returned to the Media Services Desk.
  • The user is responsible for up to the full replacement cost (not to exceed $2000) if the computer is lost, damaged, or stolen.
  • All user files must be saved to disk or the server on ECHO before returning the laptop. Any downloaded files will be deleted. The library is not responsible for any lost files.

Saving Files and Printing

Laptops do not print directly. All work must be saved onto a floppy disk or server file through ECHO. Printing may be done from a floppy in either the Computer Cluster or the Electronic Classroom.

The DELL INSPIRON 1100 Laptops DO NOT have floppy drives. Patrons must login to their Novell account using ECHO and save their work in the user area.

The DELL INSPIRON 2650 laptops are equipped with a floppy drive. Patrons can either save their work to floppy or to their user area on the Novell network using ECHO.

Return of Laptops

Laptops must be returned to a library staff member at the Media Services Desk and may not be left on the counter. The user must remain at the Media Services Desk until the Library employee verifies that the laptop is in good working order. (In case of emergency evacuation of the library, the laptop must be taken with the user and returned to the Media Services Desk when the building is safe to re-enter.)

Fines and Late Charges

There will be a $10 late charge (with a 30 minute grace period) for each hour or portion thereof that the laptop is returned beyond the due time. Maximum fine is $50 upon return of the laptop. These fines will be attached to the user’s library account and must be paid in full for circulation privileges.

Faculty

Laptops for use by faculty outside of the library are available from Classroom Services. If faculty charge out Library laptops, they are subject to the above rules and penalties.
