Accessing Library Resources from Off-campus

Instructions for Databases and E- Journals Instructions for Electronic Reserves Off Campus Availablity

General Instructions

Keys to success
Internet Explorer 5.0 and 6.0 are preferred. Netscape 6.0+ or Mozilla probably will work but have not been tested.
The AOL Browser DOES NOT work.
Users MUST have a currently valid LMC ID (Dolphin card).
Student Development issues the cards and is located in the Campus Center, 2nd Floor - 445-4525. Access is restricted to current students, faculty and staff.
Many of the articles and electronic reserves are presented using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
It is available as a free download from the Adobe website. Icon to link to Adobe Acrobat Reader
Cookies MUST be enabled.
Follow the links from the Library web pages.
  • While not necessary to understand the inner workings of the proxy server to use it for off-campus for off-campus access, click here for a description of HOW IT WORKS.
  • Users may also continue to use the "old" proxy settings but these settings are no longer supported.

Troubleshooting

Contact the Library Reference Department - 445-4330 for assistance if needed.
  • Cookies must be enabled to use many of the library services. Users who increase the security of the browser by not accepting cookies may find that many of the resources will not funtion properly (under the TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, PRIVACY menu in Internet Explorer).
  • America Online's default browser will not work because it does not accept cookies. If you use AOL as your provider, we suggest that you open AOL as usual to establish the connection then start the Internet Explorer browser (in Windows this may generally be found either on your desktop or in the START menu under PROGRAMS.
  • Some users have reported problems if the CONTENT ADVISOR feature is turned on in Internet Explorer so we advise against using this feature when accessing library resources.
  • Always follow the links on the libray webpages. Do not bookmark the individual resources as the links frequently will change.
  • It may take a few days after registration for students to be activated as valid users. Contact the Library Reference Department - 445-4330 - if you cannot get access within a reasonable period of time.

Instructions for Databases and E-Journals

What are available for databases and full-text resources to off-campus users?

Most databases are licensed for use by the entire Le Moyne College community both on-campus and off-campus but some databases have restricted licenses which limit use either physically on-campus or within the library. Restrictions are noted on either the Subject or Alphabetic List of databases by the following symbols.

Databases with ON CAMPUS ONLY restrictions are indicated with an

CD-ROM databases are limited to use within the Library because special software or setup is often necessary. Special arrangements may be made for on campus users to gain access to some of these databases depending on the technical configuration of their computers and the database needed. Off campus access is not currently technically possible. Please contact the Electronic Resources Librarian , x4332, if you have need of this service.
